How To Explain & Choose the Right Outreach For Your Crew
How do I explain and choose the right outreach for my crew?
Sometimes it can be difficult to pick just one way for your crew to serve your particular community. With so many walks of life coming together, you often find that each person has a different idea and/or passion for outreach. This can actually be used to our advantage as people come into our crews. Different life experiences can spark a passion in us to serve a group of people in our respective communities. When choosing the right outreach, ask yourself the following two questions below.
What am I passionate about?
Do you often find yourself thinking about a group of people- the homeless, those who struggle with substance abuse, children without homes, etc. ...This is a great place to start when finding the right outreach for your crew because you need to have a drive for what you are signing up for.
Are there organizations around you that may already be serving the group you’re interested in helping?
We desire to partner with our communities, so if there’s already an organization that’s doing something for those we seek to help, that’s awesome! Call them and ask if they have any needs, and how you can best help them. You can also forward their contact information to the Serve the City director at your campus. Their role is to help organize and introduce any new outreach opportunities to our crews! Once you have decided which organization you’d like your crew to partner with, reach out to the outreach captain to choose the dates that you guys will come together to serve. Be sure to give these dates out with enough time for each crew member to participate in your outreach.
Why are outreaches important?
In the book of Matthew Jesus says,
“ I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you as a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ “
Outreaches are a vital part of our crews. When we serve those in need in our communities, we are not just showing them that Jesus loves them, we are also showing them that there’s a group of people that genuinely cares about them.
